CD Review: "Just Yve, In A Sentimental Mood"

Yve Evans

One of the delights of this past winter season in the California Desert was hearing and getting to know Yve Evans.  I honestly can say that I became a fan after hearing Yve sing and play her first song. Most of my music friends in California have been fans of Yve's for years, and I know I am late to the party but I am in "love" with her.

Yve's voice embodies sounds of many of the greatest jazz singers I have loved since I was a teenager.  I am talking about Ella, Sassy Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne and even Pearl Bailey. Her voice is just heavenly, period.  Yve shared a story with me that when she was very young,  she met Ella who said, "I came to hear the kid that sounds like me."  Yve sang for Ella who was knocked out by Yve's soft beautiful voice and encouraged her to keep singing became she had what it takes to make it big in the music business.  Yve was also close to Sarah Vaughan who also encouraged Yve to keep singing.
In addition to a having a magnificent voice, Yve also plays piano brilliantly with the total feel and understanding of some of the best lyrics ever written for songs in the "Great American Songbook".
Shortly after hearing Yve for the first time, I checked into her site and found several CD's that Yve recorded. The CD I want to review is " Just Yve, In A Sentimental Mood".  This CD was recorded in 1994 and it still sounds as good today as it did on the day it was recorded and the songs on this CD are as good as they come. The first song, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" is the perfect opening song to introduce Yve's smooth style and piano playing.  This CD has sixteen gems that will bring you hours of pleasure for many years to come.  Listen to Yve singing "Black And Blue". Her singing and playing on this tune is better than any recording I have ever heard.  Her medley of "Over The Rainbow and Fly Me To The Moon and LOVE" is simply outstanding.  Take a look at the list of songs on this must have CD; it's too difficult to pick a favorite. You can order this CD by going to Yve's site " or on "CD Baby".
