Gianni Russo
I would guess that some of my readers might find the pictures of Gianni Russo somewhat familiar. I think some might recognize Gianni for his portrayal of Carlo Rizzi in the acclaimed classic "The Godfather"  and not as an accomplished singer. Gianni's film career emdodies work in over 40 films including "The Freshman",  "Any Given Sunday", and "Sea Biscuit". In January of this year,  Gianni started  work on a new film produced by Brett Ratner and directed by George Gallo, Jr. that  is based on the extraordinary life of Gianni Russo.

But tonight's visit  to Solari's Restaurant in Hackensack , NJ was not to see Gianni Russo the actor.  We were here to see Gianni Russo the singer.  Gianni released  a CD in 2004 called "Reflections" that paid tribute to his friends, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. He also just finished a successful two-week engagement at  Feinstein's at the Loews Regency in New York City.

Tonight, Gianni was joined by a talented 4 piece band that included  Peter Viani on piano, Mike  Sanmartino  on Sax, Gary Mazzaroppi on base and Danny Venditti on Drums. Gianni is an excellent singer and sang many signature songs of Martin and Sinatra.  In addition, Gianni had many interesting stories he shared with the audiences about his  life experiences and rememberances of  the "Rat Pack" personalities.
At age 68, Gianni still has the look of a major movie star but without the movie star attitude.  He was very open to  all and  freely talked  with  everyone in attendence before and after his wonderful performance.    It was a wonderful trip to the past for most of us in the audience who still remember and treasure the Sinatra "Rat Pack" years.

  1. It's all BS when it comes to Gianni Russo - he never hung out with Sinatra -

  2. If everyone who claims to have hung out with Sinatra got together, they would fill Shea Stadium. I don't recall Gianni claiming to have hung out with Sinatra the night I saw him, but I have no doubt that he has love and great respect for Sinatra and Martin and the rest of the cast of characters that were always with him. Gianni has had a most interesting life and I am looking forward to the release of the upcoming movie on his life story. I appreciate the effort you made to share your comment with me and other readers!

  3. Another BS story about a movie being made about his life. He's been saying that for 10 years and where is his movie? Shame on you for buying into his BS - you are too credible for that My Man. Sinatra and MArtin were always with him?? He's 20 years younger than those guys and Russo was hanging out with peons not these guys - he couldn't shine their shoes - that is if they allowed that. Give me a break - Russo hung out with Sinatra - he hung out with brillies

  4. Dear Anonymous: After I got your last comment I tried to find some information about the movie Gianni said was in the process of being made. Checked out sites for the producer and the director he mentioned and did not see any information about the Russo movie. I knew very little about Gianni before I went to hear him sing. I thought he had a good voice. Maybe Gianni will see these comments and send his own comments to clear the record. No doubt you have a lot more information about him than I do. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I appreciate your efforts to find out the truth about Russo - so many people just believe him because he walks around likes he is this big movie star with his spray on tan and permanent eyeliner and pretends to have "mob" connections which freaks everyone out so they don't question his veracity. He owes a friend of mine 12 million dollars from a lawsuit he lost after he stole her children's television show . Go ahead, google him and look up law suit for AJ's Time Travelers and Gianni Russo - see for yourself - he's played one too many tough guys in the movies that he has convinced himself he is one of them - for anyone to do what he has done to woman all his life I label him a first class coward.
